This workshop is designed for those who are interested in learning the basics of Special Education law, rights of those receiving services, as well as the skills for partnering and advocating for students with disabilities and their families in educational settings.

Trainees will receive a foundational, 2-day training that will provide an overview of:

  • Basic advocacy skills and how they apply to the educational setting

  • The foundational concepts of an IEP and 504

  • Transition Planning

In addition, trainees who attend both days will be awarded a certificate of completion of the foundational training, mentoring during their 40-hour practicum, and the opportunity to receive a one day follow-up training, date TBD. Completion of all requirements will result in certification as a Lay Educational Advocate. Accompanying handouts and lunch will be provided at no charge to attendees.
