At least once every 10 years, states use data gathered during the Census to revisit (and usually redraw) their district maps to meet strict requirements for population equality and voting rights protections. This process is called redistricting and it impacts where (and who) falls within a district, meaning it can drastically change who represents a district and the makeup of the legislative body as a whole.
While the process can be complex and the ramifications tremendous, there are simple ways for the public and nonprofit organization can engage and ensure fair representation for their communities. To demystify redistricting and share some of those engagement strategies, this workshop will have Professor Justin Levitt, whose All About Redistricting website is an indispensable resource for understanding how the process works in each state.
